Ushering in the cold nights on the First of May was the benefit performance for Gawad Kalinga held at UWA’s Eileen Joyce Studio on the 1st of May, featuring Ms Marian Nelson, in a special performance of operatic arias, musical theatre pieces and Filipino art songs, accompanied on the piano by David Dockery. Marian wrapped everyone with her soulful rendition of Puccini’s O Mio Babbino Caro, followed by Marguerite’s Song (Gounod) before waxing sentimental with Ang Bayan Ko and finally engaging the audience with Filipino art songs Sa Kabukiran and Calesa. The High Tea provided a happy occasion for first-time meetings as well as mini-reunions of long time friends who had not seen each other in decades. As for Marian, everyone is eagerly looking forward to the encore performance!
