Broad strokes in this new season of spring

As we shake off the cold and lethargy of old man winter, all things bright and beautiful awake from slumber. The birds are tweeting more excitedly, the flowers blossoming confidently, the honeybees swarming without stinging and the trees branching out with fresh leaves. It is spring! As with the birds and the trees, and the flowers and the bees, a burst of new life and optimism issue forth from the hearts of men.

Winter would not, of course, be without a reason as a season. Within its bosom it would carry expectations which often came with great consternation. Under its watchful eyes, tiny guarded steps of pondering and reflection would transpire. The days of spring, thus emboldened, are able to take the optimistic leaps.

So yes, we are able to dance to the many joys and hopes that spring does bring, only because winter prepared us so

The Pinoy Strayan has completed its first year cycle, with four quarterly issues. Our hopes and expectations are still mightily tested on the ground as we continue to chase desired outcomes. Yet we are not lacking in moral support and encouragement from valued sponsors and friends. Once again, as spring brings renewed hopes, we are happy to announce that we have turned a new leaf. To make ourselves more accessible, we have launched our online edition, at www.pinoystrayan.com, with a Facebook link. We hope you will pay us a visit, drop us a line, and help us scan the horizon.

Our 2016 spring edition continues to paint a cross- cultural picture in broad strokes, with the promise to define it more clearly through in future when we will attempt to feature migrant stories and experiences. In such a way, we hope to aid in capturing the essence of ‘multicultural’ and help crystallise a better understanding of the concept.

We are happy to observe that we are not alone in this endeavour. This coming October, representatives of the Filipino community will be gathering for a Forum upon the invitation of the Office of Multicultural Interests (OMI) to examine how wider multicultural community issues in WA impact the Filipino community. We consider this OMI initiative to be a significant step in the direction of mutually beneficial explorations.

Indeed, as always, spring comes bearing delightful promises for the taking. The breathtaking flower fields of West Australia is a testament to this. Wise to bear in mind, though, that as the Great Master of the Vineyard says, only on fertile ground will harvest bloom.
