The New City Library

The new City of Perth Library on Hay Street at Cathedral Square has opened and it is impressive!

The purpose-built, state-of-the-art Library covers 3,500m2, showcases a range of features over seven levels, including a History Centre, reading rooms, meeting rooms, a dedicated level for young adults and another one for children, a 90-seat multifunction room. There is free WiFi, videoconferencing facilities and a digital media wall, with computers for public use throughout.

Aesthetic features include a wide staircase, green wall and ceiling art. Adding a breath of fresh air is an outdoor terrace in the fourth level. The cafe on ground level is in the works.

The Library creates a true sense of place, providing plenty of community interaction as well as quiet and reflective spaces. The New City Library provides more space for people to connect, explore, learn, create, reflect and participate. Ah but books will, of course, remain integral. The collection of books, magazines, and digital resources is massive.

Next time you are in the city with time to spare, check out the New City Library and be impressed. Meet you there!
