Toward a community united

One of the many reasons we support The Pinoy Strayan is that it offers an avenue for WA Filipinos to share their experiences and for organisations to get their message out to the community

Many community organisations are in the practice of printing souvenir programs for events they are holding, for which they seek advertising sponsorship. From my perspectives: souvenir programs are expensive to print, use up much of the money raised, and give the sponsor very limited advertising exposure to a few hundred people at the most.

Instead of doing a souvenir program, it would make more sense for the organisation holding an event to write up an article on the event, acknowledge the assistance received from sponsors, and publish the article as a supplement in The Pinoy Strayan.

By so doing, the organisation would have minimised their expenses, while getting their message out to the wider community. As for the advertisers, instead of limited exposure to a few hundred people, they would now benefit from exposure to a wider readership of at least 5,000 Australia-wide.

I am told that The Pinoy Strayan will publish quarterly issues in 2016, and scale up to an online edition by third quarter of the year. The publication is also on social media, where stories and advertisers will enjoy additional exposure.

I hope that Filipino community associations will consider the idea of converging in The Pinoy Strayan. It would be a small but interesting step toward maturing as a community united.
