G’day and Mabuhay!
Time to step out…as the flowers and the trees shoot out of the dead and cold of winter. It is spring, glorious spring!
We couldn’t have chosen a better season to birth The PinoyStrayan. Your Filipino Community Magazine Down Under. Perth and WA Edition.
‘PinoyStrayan’ is an informal coinage of the words Filipino and Australian. The composite term refers to a migrant originally The Philippines who has come to make a life in Australia or the offspring of such a migrant. The term can also be a reference to a material or an attitude or a way of life created when the culture of origin and the culture of destination are mingled or deconstructed either way.
However unceremonious its name, The PinoyStrayan aims to be serious in bearing significant and relevant information, prudent in its selection, and appropriate in its delivery.
While it will reserve the privilege to select the materials for publication, The PinoyStrayan will aspire to be inclusive and encompassing in terms of scope and coverage.
The primary audience of The PinoyStrayan will be the migrant community of Filipinos in Australia, particularly in WA. In saying that, The PinoyStrayan will endeavour to be universal in addressing issues and information, so as to be relevant to the wider community.
A work in progress, The PinoyStrayan clearly has long roads and hard yards to cover. Especially in its infancy, it may be clumsy in its navigation. Like a newborn, it will reach out to be picked up and must generate energy from the response of the mother community itself to whom it has been born.
The PinoyStrayan extends its appreciation to those who believed that an overarching community publication has a clear and real purpose to fulfill in taking the WA Filipino migrant community forward in good ways. Thank you for the prodding and the vote of confidence. Thank you for the encouragement and the support!
Ultimately, by God’s grace and according to His perfect will, we hope that The PinoyStrayan can provide a point of convergence towards worthy and shared goals, as it strives to celebrate what is good and what is gained and to mirror in its pages representative ideas, experiences, dreams and aspirations of the people within the broad spectrum of the community that it wishes to serve.
