
His Holiness Pope Francis, in February this year, appointed as Apostolic Nuncio to Australia, His Excellency Most Rev Adolfo Tito Yllana, Titular Archbishop of Montecorvino.
Archbishop Yllana was born on 6 February 1948 in Naga City, Philippines. He was ordained a Priest for the Archdiocese of Caceres, Philippines in March 1972.
Following his doctorate in civil and canon law, Archbishop Yllana completed postgraduate studies in international diplomacy at the Pontifical Ecclesiastical Academy in Rome.
In 2001, Archbishop Yllana was appointed Titular Archbishop of Montecorvino and Apostolic Nuncio to Papua New Guinea. He was ordained a bishop on 6 January 2002.
Archbishop Yllana was appointed Apostolic Nuncio to Solomon Islands in 2003, and later appointed Apostolic Nuncio to Pakistan in March 2006. Thereafter, he was sent as Apostolic Nuncio to the Democratic Republic of Congo in November 2010.
The 67-year-old Archbishop speaks English, Spanish, Italian and French.
The President of the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference, Archbishop Denis Hart, welcomed Archbishop Yllana’s appointment. “Archbishop Yllana brings wide and diverse experience, great faith, and priestly gifts. We assure him of a warm and enthusiastic welcome upon his arrival and service in Australia.”
A papal nuncio, officially known as an Apostolic Nuncio, is a permanent diplomatic representative of the Holy See to a state.

AUSTRALIA’S NEW APOSTOLIC NUNCIO.
According to rappler.com, Yllana entered the Diplomatic Service of the Holy See on February 1, 1984, and served in the apostolic nunciatures in Ghana, Sri Lanka, Turkey, Lebanon, Hungary, and China.
The Apostolic Nunciature in Australia is based in ACT and is listed in the Directory of the Australian Government Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
