First stop: Kings Park.
Perth’s 400-hectare oasis in the middle of the city, and home to the State War Memorial and WA Botanical Gardens. Because of its proximity to the city, it is the natural first choice for the first-time tourist to visit. From the Memorial Grounds, one is afforded a commanding view of the Swan River, with Swan Bell Tower and what is soon coming up as Elizabeth Quay on the city side and South Perth on the opposite.

Kings Park is home to the spectacular Western Australian Botanic Garden, which displays over 3,000 species of the State’s unique fora. Two-thirds of the park is bushland, making it an important conservation reserve in the urban area, and a haven for native biological diversity. The bushland is home to a diverse range of native wildlife and is accessible by a network of walking trails. Immaculate gardens and parklands, picnic grounds, children’s discovery play areas, as well as cultural and historical sport can be found in Kings Park for the appreciation of the visitor.
The season of spring brings on the Kings Park Festival! As 2015 is the 50th anniversary year of the WA Botanic Garden, Kings Park and Botanic Garden will showcase ‘Beauty Rich and Rare”, promising to be the most beautiful wildflower show on the planet!

The spectacular Western Australian wildflowers, looking their blooming best at this time of year, makes September an even more perfect time to visit Kings Park.
