Perth Rising

To reiterate what we have stated in our first issue, we want for the world outside to be able to sight something of our part of the planet here in Perth. In the same manner, we want to enable our multicultural community in WA to experience, albeit vicariously, the mystique of life in our paradise islands of the Philippines. With every issue of The Pinoy Strayan we will seize the opportunity to capture in photos and narratives glimpses of life in our two worlds… our parallel universes… our homes both. Doing so, we hope to see perspectives broadened toward mutual appreciation and understanding.

In the pages of this issue, we get a sense of Perth going through a growth phase, but feel it guarding its fascinating conservative laid- back image. The young metropolis begins to come to terms with the imperatives of change and the requisite infrastructure development. Often as might be expected, the city has had to grapple with growth pains, the annoyance with train service occasionally suspended, for instance. But in general, Perth is a picture of patience.

Perth CBD itself remains diminutive compared to major Australian cities, but population influx has seen a notable increase in the past ten years, and the significant facelift is visible.

The Perth international airport facilities are seeing a standards upgrade. The road arteries interconnecting the urban sprawl are quietly being put in place. New cafes and entertainment hubs in the main city district and satellite social districts are on the upspring. And oi, we don’t know if you’ve noticed when passing through Wyndan Bridge on Graham Farmer Freeway, but there is the exciting new Perth Stadium feverishly being constructed, just across the river on the eastern fringe of the city.

Enjoy the images of Perth rising.
