Medal Haul: 48 Golds, 19 Silvers, 12 Bronzes

Young Filipino Swimmers Impress at Perth Competition

A delegation of young Filipino swimmers from the Philippine Swimming League (PSL) who came to Perth over the Easter weekend (March 26 – 27) to compete in the All Star Indian Ocean Challenge 2-day meet at HBF Stadium in Mt Clare- mont WA. At the end of the 2-day meet, the PSL swimmers came off with a total harvest of 79 medals — 48 golds, 19 silvers and 12 bronzes.

Six team members bagged the Most Outstanding Swimmer Award. They are: Sean Terence Zamora, with 6 golds, 3 silvers, 1 bronze (Boys, 15yo); Marc Bryan Dula, 4 golds, 1 silver (Boys, 9yo Category); Kyla Soguilon, 9 Golds, 1 Bronze (Girls, 11yo); Micaela Jasmine Mojdeh, 8 golds, 2 silvers (Girls, 9yo); Drew Benetton Magbag, 5 Golds, 3 Silvers, 1 Bronze (Boys, 16yo); and Albert Sermonia, 2 Golds, 2 Silvers, 1 Bronze (Boys, 11yo).

Completing the PSL team, and like- wise adding to the medal haul were Joy Rodgers, Namahig Asa Mahiwo, Paul Christian King Cusing, Ferdi- nand Ian Trinidad, Jux Solita, Roger Dante Giron, John Gabriel Bucad, Lucio Cuyong II, Kobe Soguilon, Francis Sherwyn Tan, and Lowen- stein Julian Lazaro.

PSL president Susan Papa was very elated over the results. “It was a great turnout as all of our swimmers won medals. The kids were motivat- ed and determined to win medals to give honor to our country. We are so proud of them.” Papa thanked the Filipino community in Perth and WA for their unwavering support to the team.” The PSL president extended special thanks to Vicki and Dave Wotherspoon, FACI, Landy and Brad Matugas, FACPI, Fr. Christian Sami- nal, Fr. Con Bogaoisan, Francis Pisa and Rodolph Catbagan.
