FCCWA President Dante Maribbay announced that the Council will start hosting Tagalog classes for Kindergarten to Year 12 school children starting February 2016!
The Tagalog language program will be conducted by the Tagalog School of Perth. The program will be partly subsidised by the WA government, through the Community Languages Program of the Office of Multicultural Interests. The Community Languages Program provides grant funding and support to not-for-profit community organisations to teach languages other than English and cultural maintenance programs after school hours.
Classes will be held every Saturday 10 – 11:30 AM during the WA school calendar at a venue to be announced later this year. Costs to participants are being determined, also to be announced later.
Learning a second language opens up new dimensions. For young people in particular, it greatly benefits their reading and writing skills and contributes significantly to their ability to think and learn. There are so many benefits of being a bilingual, it is a great investment.
It is a great opportunity for all children growing up in Australia to learn their ancestral language and keep our culture going for future generations.
Places will be limited and on a first-come first-served basis. Those who are interested to register their children to participate are encouraged to register now.
