FCCWA (Filipino Co1mmunity Council of WA), in a well-attended high tea affair on 16th August, launched the Gawad Kalinga Youth Ambassador WA 2015 Campaign to raise funds for youth outreach program and social projects in The Philippines. Cooperating with FC- CWA in raising youth candidates for the campaign are major community organizations in Perth and WA, led by Filipino Australian Club of Perth Inc (FACPI), Knights of Rizal (KOR), Philippine Educational Theatre Artists of WA (PETAWA), Filipino Australian Skilled Technicians (FAST), Filipino Australasian Club Inc (FACI), Filipino Australian Club of Cockburn Inc (FACCI), Mandurah Filipino Sports Club Inc (MFSCI), and Southwest Australian Filipino Association Inc (SAFAI). Private entities, including San Lorenzo Ruiz Choir of Notre Dame (SLRC) Jumeirah Music Centre (JMC) of Iluka, have also lent their support to the campaign by fielding candidates.

On hand at launching day to offer words of encouragement and help build momentum for the campaign were former WA youth ambassadors Louisa Cotter Pobre (2006-07), Adora Jane Bonadeo (2008-09), and Adam Orchard (2010-11).

Participating as GK Ambasssador candidates in the 2015 campaign are: Jhanae Paule (FACPI), Gareth Goerthe (KOR), Carina Aquino (PETAWA), Justine Derek Gayagoy (FAST), Josh Lane and Jesamae de la Cerna (FACI), Natalie Lane (FACCI), Nicole Soriano (MFSCI), John Emmanuel Bautista (SLRC), Jack Nelson and Katherine Sutton (JMC).

The enthusiastic GK Ambassador candidates have kicked off their fundraising activities, ranging from quiz and bingo nights , thrift sales, cake sales, and sausage sizzles, and fun sports and karaoke competitions!

The GK Ambassadors will be making the rounds of com- munity activities to drum up support during the short campaign blitz.

Part-proceeds go towards the following objectives:

Feeding and Nutrition Program for Schoolchildren in the Haiyan Disaster Area in Central Philippines: Almost 2 years after the Category 5 typhoon wrought havoc, hunger and basic nutrition is still an urgent ongoing concern for the humanitarian workers. Gawad Kalinga aims to conscientiously deliver a fair share;

Home for the Homeless in the Haiyan Corridor: The disaster which claimed more than 6,000 lives also dis- placed some 1.1 million families who are in need a de- cent dwelling. According to the UN Report on Haiyan, the reconstruction phase will need massive medium- to long-term intervention in terms of resources. Gawad Kalinga is doing its work in terms of land-banking, whilst every donation for house building will make an impact; and

Farm Village University for Socially-Inclusive Wealth Creation: Gawad Kalinga’s long-term platform is for the development of social entrepreneurs out of the least privileged families in the Philippine countryside, in collaboration with best from around the globe, and from this mutually beneficial partnership, produce environmentally and economically sustainable and globally competitive brands out of the vast resources of the islands!

Youth Outreach Project: At the completion of this Campaign, the Youth Outreach Program scheduled in January 2016 will give you and the aspiring Youth Ambassadors the opportunity to witness for yourselves the realities on the ground, participate in the house-build and feeding programs, meet the beneficiaries of the fundraising campaign face-to-face, as well as your inter- act with the other volunteers from around the world in the GK Farm Village University.  From what could be an experience of a lifetime, it is hoped that a core group of youth leaders will emerge who will then take the baton of leadership from the present generation of community leaders in WA.

The FCCWA GK Youth Ambassador WA fundraising campaign 2015 will be running through to 22nd November 2015. Proclamation and Gala Night will be held on Sunday 6th December at the Wellington Ball- room of Morley Recreation Centre.

To buoy up the enthusiasm of the youth ambassador candidates, the Filipino Australian community in Perth and WA, along with your families and friends, are asked to support the GK Ambassador candidate in your part of town in their fundraising efforts and activities.
